UMBC, on its own printed honours rule
UMBC states its honours bands as numbers a student can aim at: summa cum laude for a grade point average between 3.95 and 4.0, with magna and cum laude below it. A fixed threshold is knowable in advance, and it means the share of a class receiving honours moves with grade inflation rather than being held constant by rule.
