UMass Amherst, on its own printed scale and honours rule

UMass prints its scale to three decimal places, A at 4.000 and B+ at 3.300, and awards Latin honours by percentile rather than by a threshold: summa to the top five per cent of each school or college. It then publishes what that percentile actually came to, per school, which for recent graduates runs to figures such as 3.988. That published realised cut-off is the most useful number on any honours page.
